In The Twilight, Ghost Have No Fear....
And so here he walks on this the most plain and normal of days! We find ourselves in a small country village in the early evening. The street of which we look upon is narrow and humble, populated in the main with small residential houses that line the cobbled pavement. There is however a small café that breaks up the houses upon this cobbled road, itself a very humble and small place with only a small place to sit inside and a couple of chairs and tables on the pavement outside.
And it is whilst walking up to this establishment where our Ghost comes into view. He’s been walking these streets for hours now with nothing to say and nobody to listen to him even if he had chosen to speak some words. Some might find this sad and lonely, but that’s just the life of a Ghost like him! He’s become so accustomed too it now, it’s become somewhat normal for him. But just like other mortals that walk the earth Ghosts have feelings to. They have emotions; they have deep and personal stories to tell. The only difference with Ghosts is that whilst others choose to tell their stories to the worlds, Ghosts simply wander and let their stories unfold for those who wish to see them.
And you have to want to see them! For only those who choose to see can ever hope to learn the wisdom of those stories so often buried in the normal hustle and bustle of daily life.
As he walks up to the small café, his eyes fall upon 2 older individuals who have come out from the café entrance and decided to sit themselves in the chairs on the small cobbled pavement. They are both males of the older generation, both of them have a small cup of coffee each, and as Ghost walks up to them, like most other people they pay no attention to him. But rather than simply carry on walking he decides if only for a few moments to take position on the table next to them as they start to speak to each other…
Man One: I was thinking of selling the house soon Fred, the old place just isn’t the same as it used to be!
Fred: I know what you me mean George, me and the wife has been talking about moving for a few months now. The problem is finding somewhere to go. I’m really not that keen to move back to the city.
Ghost finds the two men most amusing already. With name like Fred and George, this town must be older than he first thought!
George: I don’t think I would ever move back to the city, I enjoy peace and quiet these days. But this place seems so baron now! 10 years ago it was full of life! I don’t know what’s happened to the place!
Ghost can relate to Fred already. He’s walked many worlds like Fred is describing, places that were once one thing yet today are totally devoid of what they used to be! And much like Fred he wonders why he does? Should he be looking for new places to roam himself? Look for new challenges and new things to do? Or is this Ghost simply doomed to walk these baron roads for all time, remembering the relics not as what they are today, but rather of what they used to be?
Fred: Trust me it was so different 50 years ago. I have so many and stories that I tell the grandkids. We used to have adventures, get up to all sorts of fun (now laughing to himself) and sometimes trouble as well! Ahh the memories! But it seems like an entirely different life to me now. It’s as though I’ve been reincarnated or something!
Ghost ponders of these words for a moment, for he has heard tale recently of another who dwells upon his life’s that have long since passed. They call him Twilight! A champion as well he is! But Ghost doesn’t care much for past life’s or memories so long past! For this Ghost as lonely as he is knows full well that only this life is within his control! It is only this life of which he can carry out causes that lead to effects. And as lonely and lost as this Ghost is, he likes to think he has at least some small effect within the world of which we all currently dwell!
George: you know I’ve been thinking Fred, maybe we’re looking at this the wrong way?
Fred: How do you mean buddy?
George: Well we’re sitting hear moaning about how great this town used to be, but if that’s no longer the case, is it not up to us to make the town what we now want it to be?
Fred: Yeah I guess you’re right.
And with those words Ghost can’t help agreeing with George. Because far too often we wish things to be as they used to be, but at the same time it is us that has made them what they currently are, and it is only us that will ever change that!
And it’s why lost souls like Twilight should thank their lucky stars that Ghosts like this one still roam this humbled world! For this Ghost could have packed up and left town years ago. The world is an endless place of discovery, with wonders to behold and experiences beyond compare that he has yet to indulge in. But something makes him linger still….. Something makes him wander to this day. And by that very fact Ghost truly believes he plays some part of making this world something worth fighting for.
But then he stops and remembers, most people don’t care about such things! They would rather wish Ghosts like him to simply go away! But that’s ok. If people wish him to vanish, such a request can easily be fulfilled!
George: I think I am right! So we’ll see what happens! I tell you what, there’s a new pub that’s opening on the other side of town tonight. Rather than sit hear feeling sorry for ourselves, why don’t we go home, change our clothes and wander over there later for a few beers!
Fred: You’re right buddy, let’s do that.
Both men quickly finish their coffee and get up to go home. They both walk past Ghost, but completely fail to either acknowledge or notice him! But that’s ok, this Ghost craves not acknowledgement, nor does he expect it.
He gets up himself to continue his walk along the cobbled road, but he makes a promises to himself inside his head, one that he indents to keep. He promises to remain for a while, to continue walking the world and doing what he can to keep alive its existence. But along that path of which he is about to tread, he makes a further promise to himself….
He promises to show Twilight what it truly means to be caught between night and day. For that’s what twilight is! It’s a special place reserved for those who deserve it that’s neither light nor dark…. And it only exists for a finite amount of time each day… a world of which this Ghost is the true embodiment of. For when need be Ghost can simply fade into the background and play a simple role. They can hover and observe and tweak the world in the way the world needs, and they do it without causing fuss or bother!
But when times need be, Ghosts can be destructive. They can scare you and make you go pale at the very sight of them! They can haunt you and follow you…cause great pain upon their victims if they choose to! And this Ghost can cause so much pain if he chooses to! And if he does, there will be no night and day to hide between! Only destruction….. And Twilight would do well to remember that!
And once that deed is done, Ghost will do what he always does…. And simply fade away and await until he is called upon again…..
