Shadow used to say, things didnt need to be real for them to be true. I never quite understood that till I got to SFT. Then things made sense.
The scene is Jacksonville Florida. I arrived here late last week. I had been trying to get away from winter and Jacksonville is as good as it gets. A state with endless summer, what better way to spend the hellish nights that are winter nights? If there is a better way I have not found it yet in 14 lifetimes.
I am sitting at Ron's Restaurant or as the locals call it at the R and R. I think there were lots of military personnel who used to frequent this place. I am sitting at a small table near the left hand corner of the restaurant with a plate of roast roast beeft with some brown gravy on it, some homemade mash potatoes and a buttermilk biscuit, I must say this about the ole R and R, they know how to eat, its nothing fancy as is all their menu items but what they do have is food that stick to your bones. Good home made real food. A type of meal I havent had in 2 lifetimes. And probably wont have again.
My mind is wandering and as I take a sip of my ice tea I cant help but think that I really wish I hadnt been booked to face Saint Jude. He is my friend and I have no wish to fight him. But I understand as a pro that we all have to do things we dont like, thats part of this profession. And I guess I am no different in that aspect.
Jude may be older than me now, but overall I far out age him, though our experiences of life have always differed, we are two souls on different sides. And yet we have always stood together by the old man, by SFT, holding up the wall and never letting go, keeping friendship close and our beliefs even closer. We never stop and we never forget, that is our creed.
And my time is coming to an end, I have finished my meal and I must move on.
