We see Emerson at his home looking through a shoebox of old pictures from his family back in the day. He looks sad. He puts the pictures back in the box and closes the box.
“Memories, they seem to stay with you forever and then some. Sad to say the memories that usually stay with us are the bad ones. Some good ones will stay with us, but for the most part, the bad outweigh the good. But I try to look back and remember the good days even if there weren’t a lot a good days to begin with. But I won’t dredge up my ugly past, there is no point in that, it won’t matter to anyone really, it barely matters to me.”
Emerson stands up from his kitchen table and starts tidying up his place. Putting away dishes then off to the living room and puts away his sons toys. He puts water in his dogs dish. Which he quickly drinks.
“Dogs are a funny animal, they sleep, eat, drink water and go the bathroom. Not a bad life if you ask me. As long as they have a good owner and a good home. Which mine certainly does.”
He smiles.
“So now the time has come for me to defend the HC title. Good, its been a while. This will definitely help get my mind off things. So I welcome the distraction. My opponent will be Shrimp, or is it The Shrimp? I guess it does not really matter. Not really. I have to wonder about his name. It is a really weird name for a wrestler. I mean, who chooses Shrimp? Its a food, an appetizer, I guess Shrimp has a lot of different uses. It can be a cocktail, a soup, a salad, bbqed, a lot of different ways it can be used. But as a name for a wrestler? Well that is a little funny I guess. Don’t you all think so?”
He smiles again.
“I am a little jealous though, I wish I would of come up with a nickname for myself when I first started, maybe something like Super Em, sort of a play on superman. Or maybe something like The Arc Angel Emerson. I dunno something around those lines would have been very cool. But its too late now I guess. Too late for a lot of things. I just got to do what I have always done. Do my best and hope for the best, right? Right.”
Emerson finishes cleaning up.
“I guess that is all I have to say really. Goodluck Shrimp. Goodluck to us, and may our match be a good memory and not a bad one.”
Fade out.
