The scene is Jack’s ranch on the outskirts of Oklahoma. He is riding his horse at the edge of their property. He is just checking the gate that is made mostly of mesquite branches and barb wire. Barb wire helps keep out unwanted animals like coyotes, wolves, bobcats, wild boar, and other such animals. There are all kinds of animals that would gladly dine on their livestock. That is just their nature. And at the end of the day, we are all just animals listening to our nature.
He starts to slow down surveying the land.
“We have over 800 acres, mostly dedicated to our livestock, cows, horses, sheep, some goats, and pigs. But we also grow some vegetables but we keep ourselves afloat with our livestock. So I know I have taken my time to address my newest challenger for my World Title. And so the time has finally arrived. Time to talk about Cypher. You chose to get youreself involved in my match with Emerson last Titans. That was a mistake. A big mistake. Ta be honest, there really wasnt any need for ya to interfere. But interfere you did. And sooner or later that bad choice will come back ta ya twice fold.”
He ties the rein for his horse to the fence and continues walking along, checking on the fence where it looks weak or unstable.
“So Cypher you finally said something that made ya look not so awful. You apologized to Emerson, so for that you get some kudos. But its a little late, but I guess better late than never. But that still doesn’t get ya off the hook. Ya were already the #1 contender for da world title, so it wasn’t necessary. But that is in the past already. Nothing we can do bout it. We cant go back in time. No, we can never go back in time and change our choices, we cant undo what we’ve already done.”
He looks a little sad as he says that.
“Ok Cypher lets get to the brass tax. On Titans its you vs. me, for the biggest prize in the industry. And make no mistake, it is the grandest prize ta be had. And I wont lie and say you don’t deserve it, or say that you are not worthy, both those things would be a lie if I said it. So I will not say it. But Cypher you are so inconsistent. You are all over the place. Some days you look like you could be the best in da company, and other days you look like you forgot how to wrestle from one day ta another. I don’t get it. I don’t get you. I ta be honest, I really don’t want to delve too much into your life or your mind. I think that would be a scary place ta be, even for a moment.”
Jack fixes a piece of the fence and reinforces the barb wire.
“There is so much about you that I don’t agree with. But then again its your life, so its not for me ta judge your life’s choices. When its all over you will be judged by our God almighty not by me, not by your family, no one just him. But I think deep down you already judged yourself, long ago. Am I wrong? You damned yourself a long time ago. And I think you are alright with that. If nothing else, you are fine with what you’ve done, and you do not punish yourself for your choices, both good and bad. And I got ta admire that if nothing else. So thats one good thing about you I guess? But I suppose it doenst really matter, not really, not in the end. Everything Ends, everything is eventual. Is it not? I got that saying my stepdad. So don’t think I am that deep to be able to come up with such an eloquent phrase.”
Jack looks out over the setting sun on the horizon as the sun starts to slowly set.
“Louis, Tuesday will be soon enough. Very soon, and you will finally get a shot at the title. Lets find out who is really worthy of the title. You or I? We will find out soon. I want to wish you goodluck on Titans and with your life. I think ya will really need it.”
