There used to be an old man who lived by the river. This was back in 1904. He lived along the Nueces River. His name was Thomas. He was born way before the great depression. He had built a small log cabin for himself and his son. His wife had passed during childbirth. They hunted and fished for what they needed, and they grew whatever vegetables they needed as well.
Thomas knew this little piece of heaven would not last. And it did not. In October of 1917, his son came to his father to tell him he was joining the army. He was going to defend the world against Germany in World War 1. Thomas forbade it. He would not allow his son to go fight for a country who had discarded them and forgotten them. But his son was adamant, he was going. Thomas and his son argued for days to the point that they fought each other. Thomas won, but it did not sway his son. He had already enlisted and would be leaving in 3 weeks. So Thomas being Thomas enlisted as well. His son and he were going to war together. His son tried to make his father stay but Thomas would not hear it. They were assigned to the same regiment. And his son soon came to understand why Thomas wanted him to forget the war. His son cried, and asked his father for forgiveness for not listening. Thomas forgave his son. On Christmas eve 1918 at the Battle of Soissons, Thomas and his son both perished. They were buried in unmarked graves along with 1103 soldiers.
When I remember that life, that story it still hurts me inside. There are things we should always try to forget but war is not one of them. War is forever and if we forget we are doomed to repeat it, and repeat it did for WW2.
You see Robert you and I have to go to war, and I really hate it. You hurt my friend Jack and it is my duty to now hurt you. That is the nature of war. They take one soldier and we take one soldier and we keep playing till one soldier is left and that side wins the war. And make no mistake every other Tuesday we all go to war. Some win, but we all lose. There are no real winners or losers, just those who got hurt and those who got hurt worse.
The winner of our match will be getting a shot at the hardcore title or the IC title. I do not know what title I will go after if I win. But this should be a hell of a war.
That is all I have to say for now.
