Doubled over in excruciating pain after narrowly avoiding certain death by way of head on collision, watching as some poor sap’s tail lights faded into the distant night, all I could think was: “Damn, he got away.” I wouldn’t be alerted of the outcome of the preceding match until it was long over. And just as suspected, Jackson Kent couldn’t close. Which, in hindsight, may not have been entirely his fault. Rumpke is an animal. He’s been around the block more times than most, so perhaps in abandoning the rookie to his slaughter rests on my shoulders as well? I’ll raise my hand in admission that it was a bad move on my part. But when I saw that spineless coward attempt to lead a trail of piss out of the arena, I had to pursue. Nothing else mattered in that moment. I was in predator mode; and when engaged I am left with only two objectives: seek and destroy.
Thus why I cannot blame Jackson Kent or even Robert Saints for being skeptical. They’re wise to be. In the final moments of the inaugural Lethal Lottery tournament, I didn’t seem very trustworthy. I was a madman triggered by emotional woes. Not the ideal partner. Fortunately for me, I’m not asking for anyone's trust. I want to advance to the next round, as I’m sure Saints does, all I want is for him to carry his own weight.
Needless to say, tag team matches aren’t my forte. Professionally. I come from another world. Where the only duo you can count on to get you to the top are at the end of your wrists. Personally. I’m not a big fan of people in general so I try not to make a habit of needing them...but to win this, I’m going to have to rely on him and vice versa. If I can put it all aside for the end goal, then he too should suck it-the-fuck-up!
Considering the fact that the World Champion is involved in the upcoming bout, it wouldn't be a bad idea to see how he’d measure up against him; because I still have no interest in squandering this opportunity on a shot at him. All due respect, Emerson Embry isn’t a blip on my radar at the moment, and I have no clue why he appears so desperate to become one. One day in the distant future I may hold him to his idea of defending his championship against me; but my heart is called elsewhere.
And just for the record, it wouldn’t be a title defense, it would be a title swap.
So the “Champ” should rest easy knowing there’s one less person to threaten his reign.
