The scene fades in. Apokalypse is standing on the edge of the great abyss, looking out into the universe that will soon belong to him.
“Jack Jones is a simple man… but he is not stupid nor blind. He knows that the world is coming to an end. He knows that his world… is coming to an end. He won’t admit it… but he knows it to be true. This young man has put on a brave face and he is standing up against Apokalypse, ready to fight until the very end. Though simple… Jack is a bright boy. He sees the writing on the wall. He questioned if it was a coincidence that he would be facing a man named Apokalypse at the upcoming episode of Titans. No, this is not a coincidence, young Jack.”
“Apokalypse IS upon you… and you know it. Soon, they will all… know it. Once they see me unleash my true power… they will believe. As the world looks to flatten the curve on this pandemic… you have the chance to set the curve for Apokalypse here in SFT. Congratulations, Jack. You have been blessed with the opportunity to be my first victim here in SFT. As I already said, a statue you will be erected in your honor once this is all over with. You’ve got to decide whether or not your horse becomes memorialized along with you. Or you goat or chicken or pig or mama.”
“Your levity while discussing the origins of my moniker is a good thing. You should joke. You should find comfort in every little thing until this is all over. You have my permission to call me Johnny Darko… Tony Atlas… Cisco Kid… Captain Underpants… Guy Fieri… Ronald McDonald… or even Tiger King for all I care. Whatever helps you cope with the inevitable truth of my destructive nature… is okay with me.”
Apokalypse turns away from the darkness and walks toward a light. That light is a refrigerator that is wide open.
“Everything in here is expired. As the world went into a frenzy… I did not hoard food… or toiletries… or even socks. As countries moved into lockdown… I rejoiced in the fact that this will all be over soon… and we can begin again. That is the true nature of Apokalypse: rebirth. Like a phoenix… we will rise from the ashes of this doomed world… and it will be… glorious. It’s just too bad that Jack Jones will not be there to see it. He’s a good kid… but… he must be sacrificed so that everyone realizes just how serious this is.”
“I’m not a comedian… or a prankster. I’m not an actor… or a thespian. Some call me a prophet… or a messiah. The reality of the situation is that I am just a man… tasked with an important job. That job is simple: destroy and rebuild. Nothing more. There are no tricks up my sleeves and I will not cheat to defeat Jack Jones at Titans 81. What I will do… is everything I have promised. I will put him down with the Final Slumber and he will be loved in defeat. The fans in Denver will go silent when they realize… in that moment… that I am for real.”
After searching for sustenance, he grabs a pack of Girl Scout Cookies, the s’mores kind. He sets the pack on the counter and opens it up, then starts chomping away at the delectables.
“These… are… incredible. If I have any left… I will bring them with me to Denver and share them with Jack Jones. I want him to experience joy one… last… time.”
The show fades out to nothing.
“Apokalypse does not point to a fiery Armageddon,
but to our ignorance and complacency coming to an end.”
