The scene opens up on a rainy night. No one should be out here tonight driving around in this weather. But some would take the rest to quench hunger and thirst. He drives his black Audi, the black leather seats seem to make the night even colder. He shivers for a moment, but only for a moment as he turns the vent to warm, the windshield begins to fog up. But only for a moment as the moisture from within the car disappears. Ever a watchful eye on the road, with such a downpour one might run into another vehicle quite easily and fast. The prudent way to drive today would be slow and careful.
I've seen so much in my time on this earth. Learned a lot, forgot a lot. I've made so many mistakes that its become a bit of a joke. They say life is about learning and living. I say its about not making the same mistakes over again.
I spot a resturant maybe a quarter of a mile away. I decide its raining too hard and best to pull in, better safe than sorry. As I put on my blinker to turn right, I hear something strange, the car behind me begins to slide uncontrollably. Its appears to be a green Ford Ranger, cant see if its a male or female driving, it misses me by a foot or two but the car in front of me catches its tail end, the car hit is a black late 90s intrepid. They collide but not as bad as you would think but the momentum from the ranger carries both cars into a ditch, water has started to accumalate and now the black intrepid is nose first into the ditch filled with water, while the ranger lays on its side on top of the Intrepid, its like watching cars wrestling in rain.
I park my car and exit my car, instantly feeling the cold rain hit my body. Theres a woman screaming in ford ranger, she cant open the door it keeps falling back on her. Everything is happening really quick. And yet it all fees like its in slow motion. I point to the back window of the truck, she sees me pointing and understand at once, shes able to slide the back window and crawl outside she almost falls backwards into the Intrepid, had she done so she would of really hurt herself. I see a cement pilon that is near the edge of her car I hop on it, almost slipping myself. I reach for her. She is a middle aged woman, curly black hair, wearing blue jeans and a green and white flowered shirt, shes a little overweight, and scared out of her mind, she wont stop yelling and screaming. I offer my arm and she tentatively grabs hold I pull her hard onto the cement pillar as she grabs hold. I see people jump into the ditch which is now quickly filling up with water, it doesnt appear water has come inside the car yet but its only a matter of time, the driver of the other vehicle is an older gentleman, white hair, light skinned, has on glasses, he's shaking but seems to be handling things well, he can open the door because the water is passed the door handle, the pressure has gotten to be a lot, the car is nose first into the ditch. A young man who looks like he could be a professional football player jumps into the ditch with an old brink in his right hand, the water is now up to his chest, and all I can think through all this is how will he get out the old man and get himself out.
And no sooner do I think that then I hear his friends yelling "We got you Brody, three other men not quite as big as Sir Brody but big enough, the three boys throw in a blank bungy cord. behind Brody. Brody yells at the man inside the car to get back and the man does, putting his arm in front of his face to shield himself from the soon to be broken glass. And the glass shatters quite easily with the force of Sir Brody. Brody pulls the old man out and and ties the bungy chord around the old man and he is pulled up easily. By this time I have helped the lady from the Ford truck up the embankment. The water is now up to Brody's neck and I am scared for the kid. But his friends do not seem worried at all. After they secure the old man they throw the bungy chord into the water right in front of Brody, the water now to his chin, he grabs hold and the start to pull him out slowly, too slow, I grab the back end of the chord and help out which starts to make a difference, the boys turn to look at me and smile and nod their heads, as if saying hell yea bro, within a few minutes Brody is safe on land, his friends high fiving him, calling him a hero, and rightfully so, Sir Brody is just that, a hero. I look at him with his buzzcut and I can see he will go off to play college ball or go into the armed forces, wherever he goes, he'll make people proud. I walk up to the young man and say in a loud voice, now shaking with adreline. Good job son, he smiles and says "Same to you sir". My weak effort had not gone unnoticed. He follows up, "I couldnt let you have all the fun", I smile and give him a quick hug, next to hug him is the woman who I had helped and finally the old man now crying, even through the rain you can see it, thanking Sir Brody with all his might. His friends you could see were beaming with pride, later tonight the would all show up on the news and be hailed as heros. Sir Brody rightfully in the spotlight. He was off ty BYU to play tight end, and greatness awaited him, of that I am sure.
So TK you might be wondering whats all this got to do with you? Not much. Not much at all, I am a story teller and this is part of what I do. The other part is teaching lessons and the lesson here TK is simple, its not how you live your life, or how well you live your life, its how you spend the time alloted to you. Will you spend your life watching, or will you jump in and risk it all for an old man? Risk your own life so that others can live? Its easy to say yes but when the time comes few ever take that risk. Question is TK you have been in SFT a long time, and rarely do you take the risks needed to achieve a greatness few ever elevate to. Its time you took that next step my friend.
That is all I have to say.
....Fade...to.....Darkness......
