It's hard to see things clearly when emotions are attached. Hard to be objective and fair....
When I was younger(a kid) I had a cousin whom I thought the world of. I mean I worshipped him. Followed him around. Took everything he said to heart. I mean I really thought the sun rose and set in his presence...
I used to play tackle football with him during football season in the backyard, baseball when the boys of summer were playing and basketball when Jordan, Bird, and Magic were taking it to the hoop. It was a cycle. A very soothing, predictable cycle I learned to depend on. It was great. And in the times between these games and competitions there was the corner store. VIDEO GAMES.... Yes old fashioned arcade stuff. GALAGA DEFENDER ASTEROIDS DONKEY KONG. Games now regarded by some as "the classics."
Well I'm here to tell you...back then they were cutting edge stuff. The latest thing. And we used to spend hours playing. Quarter after quarter...weekend after weekend...trying our best to get "the high score" and having the honor of putting your initials in the game. For all the world to see your three letters proudly displayed as the best. The score to beat. Yes it was only a neighborhood store thing but when your skills came through and you topped the current high score you felt like the world new you were the best.
Like I said, it's hard to see clearly when emotions are attached. Because in hindsight I realize my cousin was an a-hole. Now I focus and realize he never picked me for his teams and always seemed to run out of quarters before me, so he would ask me for aome of mine.
It's sad to me to think of myself as that gullible or awww struck in my ex-role model cousin. Point is Twilight, I don't let emotions cloud my perceptions anymore. I don't polish the belt, I didn't name the belt, I don't go to bed with the belt....but I did win/earn the belt.....MY BELT.
