The year is 1914. My name is Tobias. We live in Winston, South Carolina. We were farmers mostly tomatoes, onions, pickels, things like that. It was a modest living but back then we didnt need much. There is a huge difference in what we need and what we want. Trust me they are totally different things.
As long as I had lived it had never occurred to me until having seen the movie Highlander that I could will myself my belongings, and make sure that the next me didnt have to have a meager life, that he could have a better life. And having a better life goes a long way.
There are always complications in what we want. I have never been a rich person, in all my lives I have never come into a family of wealth. And I often wonder what that type of lie might be like? To never have to worry about what something costs, or make calculations in your head of what you can afford, in my lives I am always a few steps behind always trying to play catchup. I cant make tuition, student loans piling up. Tired of eating sandwiches and rice and beans. Life is always like that for me, always. And I realize I am not the only one, so many people are born into poverty and just really tough times and life. But man wouldnt it be nice, at least for a short time?
I guess someone like me shouldnt be so petty. But after a lifetime of lives and hard times, an easy life wouldnt be so bad would it?
So the point of all this is simple. You cant always get what you want, But if you try sometime you find
You get what you need. So this goes out to Rumpke. My dear dear Rumpke. What is it you need and what is it you want? Cause my friend you dont see the type who knows what you want or what you need, you are like a great big tractor driving itself with no direction and no purpose. You want to push people here and get them to be better, to what end? Do you want them to be like the dinosaurs of yesteryear, like you and Redd? Those times are gone, this is a digital age, where no one can do anything for more than 7 minutes and after that we move on to the next thing. We wear ugly shirts, and uglier shoes. We comment on the state of the world then shrug our shoulders when asked what to do about it. We whine and complain about how fair the world is, then turn around and do the same thing to others. In other words we are crap and we make the world crap. I know it, I live it, I understand it. What can you do? Go around slapping every millenial in the face till they stop being idiots? Now theres an idea.
Or you could be like me. Live, die, try again in another life. Try again to get things right. I never do but I try. But what I really want to know is what are you trying at Rumpke? Is the hardcore title all you want, is that the best you can do? You want to push others to better themselves, but why not look towards yourself, better yourself, teach in a way that some would want to learn, but a leader, but an example. Lead by example, and if you can do that, maybe you can finally accomplish what you wanted.
But the jury is still out on that isnt it? Will you do what needs doing or will you continue down the road that you have paved for yourself. Maybe and you might end up in the purgatory named Jeville, and who knows you might actually like that hellish place. Someone like you might call it a “challenge”. One never knows for sure till they try it. Me I like it here, wish I could stay.
