Jack is seen driving his blue 1988 Ford Pickup. He’s been driving down Highway 187 headed toward Luca, Oklahoma. He’s gonna buy some feed for the chicken and pickup some medicine for a steer that's a little under the weather.
“I been driving for over an hour. Its cold as heck and this truck don't have any ac or heater. People think that its always warm in the south, and for the most part it is, but when when winter hits, boy does it hit. And winter is here boyo, boy it is here.”
“But I enjoy this quiet times, when I get out on the road there isn't much for me to do than to compose my thoughts and get my thoughts in order. Its been a long road for me. One year I am on top, one year I am at the bottom. But one thing is for sure is I never give up. I never stop trying. In a lot ways Emerson and I are very much alike.”
We are both taken for granted many times. No one seems to notice us till its too late and they have lost to us. We are both the type of men who work hard for what little we have. We take pride in ourselves and honor in who we are. Not much more can be said for that.
When I was younger, my stepfather, my mom and I were in a nice restaurant. We had just sat down when across the way an older man was complaining about Mexicans. To the point he was so loud. My stepfather smiled at us, and with his finger motioned for us to watch. He started to speak Spanish to us, loud enough for the older man across the way to hear. After a 5 minute conversation he switched to speaking English and said “Thats the great thing about knowing multiple languages, you can speak to someone else and most people wont understand a thing you said, because some people aren't intelligent enough to know one language much less two.” We giggled at that, the older man on the other side was visibly angry but he kept quiet. He probably saw my stepfather and assumed picking a fight with such a man would be foolish and quite possibly dangerous. He was right to be a little afraid.”
He was a man who was never afraid to stand up for whats right. Those are the type of men we should all strive to be. Always willing to be the foreign voice in the belly of idiocy. But that's how he always was. Always willing to stand up even when it made others uncomfortable. It made me appreciate that, made me want to be strong like he was. I hope I have. I hope I made him proud. I’m in school now, working on my bachelors degree. I wont be the low anymore. Soon I’ll be more.
You see Emerson we aren't always destined to be great. Some guys in SFT walk around like greatness was bred in them. Like they were a baby and grew up knowing how awesome they'd be. But guys like you and me, we had to scrape our ways up. Had to take the road less traveled and then some to get just a little bit. Sometimes we made a little bit go a long way didn't we? We’re still doing that. And I am proud that you once again hold the world title. No one and I mean no one deserves that world title more than you. I am proud of you, everyone is.
But now you have to defend it and I wont hold back. I will go as far I can go. So Emerson I wish you the best of luck, we’re both gonna need it.
