Winner and STILL Strike Fantasy Towers World Heavyweight Champion… JAIME REYES!
Maaannnnn, that sounded cool last week. It was a hard fought battle and I have to give my respects to Cypher for fighting for what he believes in. And now, I remain champion… looking forward to my next defense. My only regret is that our match wasn't a Hell in a Cell Match, as advertised. It's funny though… because Cypher did say it was a regular match, with no stipulation. Either he's a prophet… or he paid the ring crew to “forget” to set up the cage.
I was looking forward to that cage. Maybe if the cage had been there… Cypher might be champion again. I guess we'll never know. Now, it's time for round two of the Jaime Reyes Championship Defense Tour. Up next is a former champion Emerson Embry, which may come as a shock to most of you. It was one week ago that Emerson lost to Nirvana, who just recently returned to SFT. And now… he's number one contender?
Yup. He sure is. Looking back to last week, it's not as important that he lost to Nirvana… as it is that he survived Nirvana. Did you see the damage he did to Nirvana, man? It was an impressive effort. He chopped that big tree down and almost got the job done. For any man to nearly take down such a monster, a title shot is surely the response, no? There will be doubts about his likelihood of getting a title shot, just as there are doubts that I even deserve to be champion.
But here I am… your champion. I was put up against Louis Cypher in his contractually obligated rematch… and I won. Fair and square. Now he has nothing to complain about. And if I am to lose to Emerson next week, I will also have nothing to complain about. To be the man, you have to beat the man. Right now, despite the doubts… I am the man. This championship on my shoulder is proof of that. Emerson is a challenge I will not take lightly. He is a former champion, and could very well take this title from me.
Is next week the start of his next reign? That remains to be seen. I'm sure he will do all he can, just as I will. Everyone wants to be World Champion, whether they admit it or not. While I am blessed with strength beyond strength, Emerson is blessed with heart beyond heart. The man lives for this company and will definitely represent it to the fullest as World Champion… some other time. I believe Emerson will be the top guy again… just not right now. I don't feel as if I have given you all that I can give.
I've got a lot to give, or so I hope. Emerson wants me to give my life story. Sure, I could do that. I could tell the takes of my youth like everyone else. Would that in any way affect the way I perform inside that squared circle? Doubtful. I don't see how the story of constantly failing to learn how to ride a bike would change the outcome of our title match next week, Emerson. What will make a difference… is hard work. That is how I've made it this far in SFT, by constantly and consistently working harder than everyone else. I may have met my match in you though. Just maybe.
I promise that if I lose to you next week… I will shake your hand out of respect for the game. The same goes for if I win, I suppose. You’re an honorable man, Emerson… and you understand the sportsmanship of this profession we have chosen. Well… I can’t say that I chose professional wrestling. It kind of chose me. For nearly twenty years now… it has been my gift and my curse. The more I give… the more it takes. I am thirty five years old… and I’ve never been in a serious relationship. I have no kids. I didn’t even have a best friend until recently when I started hanging out at All-Star Comics. I’ve devoted my life to this sport… and what has it given me in return? I am Strike Fantasy Towers World Heavyweight Champion, for one… while few think that I should be. Also… uhhhh… I have a lot of frequent flyer miles built up. Honestly, I’ve given more of myself than I have received in return… but I keep on keeping on. That’s exactly what I will do after Titans 41… win or lose…
[The scene opens to All-Star Comics in San Diego, California. SFT World Heavyweight Champion Jaime Reyes is hard at work, or so it appears. He is typing away feverishly at his computer. When the camera pans over, he is actually playing an N64 mod of Super Mario 64. When he notices the camera, he quickly turns his head and smiles.]
JR: Oh, hi there! I didn’t see you come in. Welcome to my domain, my home away from home, my eeeeeeeevil lair. Okay, not so much of an evil lair as it is my office space. But not the kind of office space where someone takes my red stapler and I burn down the building. No, sir. This is where I spent parts of a few days a week, scheduling my travel and hotel accommodations for my SFT appearances all around the country. A lot more goes into this than just show up and wrestle, you know. Sure, showing up and wrestling is the basic part of what it takes to be a pro wrestler, but to be SUCCESSFUL at it… there’s a lot of work that needs to be done ahead of time. I won’t bore you with all of the details. I mainly asked you to be here today… for this guy…
[Into the office walks SFT Hall of Famer and former Co-Owner Nathan Gust, who seems surprised to see the camera.]
NG: Uhhh, hey, Jaime. What’s… going on?
JR: Just a little videography leading up to my title defense against Emerson Embry, next week on Tuesday Night Titans, live from New York City!
[Jaime gives a big thumbs up to the camera, then puts his attention back on his friend and mentor.]
NG: Nice cheap plug.
JR: Thanks. I learned from the best.
NG: So, Emerson, huh? Are you nervous?
JR: Of course I am. Emerson is the nicest and most respectful member of the SFT roster. I’ve got a lot of work to do, to get ready for this match.
NG: I don’t know why his niceness makes you nervous.
JR: I don’t know, man. I guess… you know… what if I punch him in the face and he thanks me for it? I won’t know how to react to that.
NG: Are you serious? You just beat Louis Cypher… again… in a Hell in a Cell Match!
JR: … but it wasn’t a Hell in a Cell Match. Somebody forgot to set up the cage.
NG: I know. I was being facetious. So, you beat Cypher… again. And if there was a cell… you would still be World Champion. After all that, your next defense is against Emerson. I get that he’s a former champion and all… but isn’t he kind of… I don’t know… soft?
JR: Were you even watching his match with Nirvana last week? The man has an undeniable determination to never give up.
NG: No, I did not watch the match. Nirvana and I aren’t exactly besties right now.
JR: You’ve been through a lot together, I get it.
NG: No, nobody really gets it… but it’s okay. What about Emerson in that match with Nirv makes you think he could take your World Title next week?
JR: His kicks, his strikes, his will to fight… the guy probably concussed Nirvana.
NG: Nirv does have a hard head…
JR: What if Emerson comes at me with that same kind of determination? I could be a former champion in no time.
NG: You could, sure. Anybody can win anything at any time. That’s what makes pro wrestling so exciting. Just go out there and do what you do best. Hope for the best, Jaime… but expect the worst. That way you’ll never be disappointed.
JR: That’s a sound way of looking at things. If I win, I win. If Emerson wins, he wins. The most important thing is that the World Heavyweight Championship will be in good hands either way.
NG: Nailed it.
JR: Will you be there next week?
NG: I will.
JR: I’m glad you took the job as a backstage agent.
NG: I will help out as long as I am able to.
JR: Cool.
[... and the scene fades.]
