Time has finally slowed down.
I can breath.
The scene is Reno, Nevada. Home sweet home. I am walking through Luxor Hotel and Casino. I used to work here back in the day. That was before I met Legion. Before I knew of SFT. Before when life was simple and livable.
Today though, life isn't what it used to be. Younger people are ruining this world. They don't have thick skins. They are easily agitated and have no sense of up or down. I feel sorry for the younger generations.
As I walk through the casino area, all the lights and sounds seem different. After so many years its to be expected. Slot machines are changed out, upgraded. New games brought in. tables are updated and upgraded as well. Dealers never last, they are always looking for the next casino willing to pay a buck or two more an hour. I cant blame them.
But the biggest difference is the ceiling. It is painted, or maybe better yet its like something covering it, there is a huge spiral, its black, and its a circling and it keeps getting smaller and smaller. Checking in to my room can wait.
As I follow the pattern on the roof, I keep going through the middle of the circus, which is really the casino. It is so many noise and lights one will keep such sights and sounds in their minds for months after. And most will yearn to come back for more. Mission accomplished for most casinos. Repeat customers are their lively hood.
As I get to the center of the maze as I call it in my mind there is a huge wheel, sort of like roulette but bigger and standing. I have seen this game before but never this size. The wheel is silver, each segment separated by large steel nails, not really nails but close enough. There is a dealer in front of it, dressed in black as Luxor has all their dealers dressed. He has white gloves and a smile on his face. For a moment I believe I time traveled for just a second, this might be a someone you might of seen back in the days where stealing your money would be OK as long as you went away smiling and had a bit of fun.
“Step right up folks, take your aim, choose your number, and with a little luck, you wont have to worry about money for several weeks maybe even months. Wouldn't that be nice?”
I think to myself indeed it would.
“This game is what makes this entire casino go round and round, and if you found us that makes you especially astute, this wheel pays 100 to 1. That means if you place even a dollar and your number hits you win 100 dollars.”
I smile.
This wheel is rigged. This wheel follows your emotions, the more you pull for one number the further it will go.
“Two hundred numbers, whats 1 dollar gonna change, so step right up folks and test your luck.”
I do just that. I watch for a few rounds of people losing and laughing. I step up to the corner of the table, and I reach into my pocket and pull out a hundred dollar bill. The dealer spots my bill then looks at my face.
“Redd! Uh hey sir, when did you get back in town?”
Just now.
“Welcome back, are you placing a bet?”
I sure am.
“Uh I might have to get permission from the pit boss here”.
Then ask.
The dealer waves over the pit boss and they whisper to each other.
The dealer sighs “He says you’re good for one bet, make it count sir.”
I flip the 100 dollar bill into the air and it lands on a number. I don't bother looking at which number it is.
The dealer is about to name out the number when I wave my finger not to do that. I see his face cringe, he doesn't like that.
Good.
After everyone else has placed their bets, he rolls the large wheel as everyone waits in anticipation. After almost a minute the wheel stops and most say some things, some applaud, they applaud as the dealer pushes chips my way. Ten Thousand dollars my way.
I say Nice doing business with you as I take my chips and walk away.
See I didn't need to win, but I did. All I had to do was show up.
That is what is happening come Titans. If Jamo or Robert show up they will win. That is all they have to do is show up and winner winner chicken dinner. But a long way they'd have to travel to show up. And show up is the big question. Will they or wont they? I think they wont. I putting good money on the idea that they will not show up. I would say if they are smart they wont show up. But that's not what I am about these days. I want them to succeed. I want them to prosper. Most of all I want them to win. But in order for them to win they need to follow the signs and not care about the outcome, because just showing up will ensure they win. Question is, will they show up? Time will tell.
I find myself at the front and check in. Damn Jude for making me come back. But in all honesty the only one who will be damned is me.
...Fade...to…Darkness…...
