[][][][][][][][][][] THE FORMER CHAMP IS WHERE? [][][][][][][][][][]
I believe that some people took my presence for granted at Back to Reality. One man in particular put very little consideration to the fact that I was building up so much momentum leading up to that huge main event battle royal. He had his sights set on Saint Jude, Rumpke, Jack Jones, etcetera. He even considered a world where Jamo was a threat. He even fostered the idea that Glenn Owen might join the main event fun. In all of that… the name that did not cross his lips was Jaime Reyes.
Perhaps underestimating me was the downfall of Louis Cypher’s run as SFT World Heavyweight Champion. I wanted nothing more than Louis Cypher at his best… and I don’t think I quite got that the first round. So, now, round two… Hell in a Cell… at Titans 40. This is when Cypher comes out to play? This is when he shows the same fire inside that burned down the impressive Hardcore Championship reign of Rumpke? I sure hope so. So far, all I see is him complaining about being slighted by “the man” and how everyone is out to get him.
I want to make it clear that I am not out to get Louis Cypher. I am out to make the most of the life that I am living… to make the most out of this run as World Champion… and to do everything I can to Make SFT Great Again. We need to open the gate and invite the world back in. Right now, this place is basically The Village. We are cut off from the outside world, oblivious to the wonders of the universe. All it took was a little crack of the gate… and in came Nirvana. Imagine what would happen if the iron curtain fell. We could see SFT flourish again, rather than have a fully active roster of five guys.
Jaime Reyes. Louis Cypher. Rumpke. Twilight. Emerson Embry. Legitimately the only five guys who are totally active right now. Jackson Kent, Robert Saints and Jamo are right on the cusp… because sometimes they’re here and sometimes they’re not. Jack Jones and Saint Jude are around… and when called upon, they do great work. Nirvana is back… and that's cool. There's some 404 guy who just got signed. I don't know what he's all about. Now… if only another ten fully active dudes would get hired… this place would be boomin’ again!
I'm getting waaaayyy ahead of myself here. I need to slow it down and bring it all back into focus. The reigning champ and self-proclaimed rightful champ have a date with destiny on August 28th. Did y'all hear about this? It's kind of the biggest match since Back to Reality. That's not really saying much… since basically nothing has happened since Back to Reality. This match between Cypher in me… it's not only huge for the two of us. It's huge for ALL of us. Hell in a Cell is a HUGE deal. This kind of match brings attention to SFT… and that's good for everyone.
The match could be absolute garbage… and it would STILL be important to SFT. But, let's be honest… Jaime Reyes versus Louis Cypher is going to be amazing! Two of the top guys in the business, going to war inside of a giant cage! It's going to be the best Hell in a Cell Match since the LAST Hell in a Cell Match! See what I did there? Overwhelming positivity is kind of my jam! That may be a total contrast from Mr. Grumpypants who is only concerned with “the man” plotting against him. If he could just accept that everything happens for a reason… and that his loss at Back to Reality means more to SFT in the long run… all would be right in the world.

[][][][][][][][][][] THE INTERVIEW [][][][][][][][][][]
[The scene opens to the training facility for Pacific Championship Wrestling, the local promotion in San Diego. SFT World Champion Jaime Reyes is finishing up with a set of drills when he notices a reporter from SFT Magazine standing amongst the empty chairs set up by the ring.]
JR: Great stuff, guys. Go get some water, take a breather. I'll be back in a few minutes.
[The class disperses and Jaime leaves the ring, to meet up with the reporter.]
JR: Bill Oldman! Good to see you again.
BO: Y-you remember my n-name?
JR: Of course. We met a few weeks before Back to Reality. I didn't have time to chat, so I told you to drop by camp sometime. Well, this must be sometime. How ya been?
BO: G-good, sir. Do you have some t-time to chat about your Hell in a C-cell match coming up on T-titans?
JR: Yeah, man. Have a seat.
[They both sit down, and Bill starts his recorder.]
BO: I'll cut right to the g-goods. Some people day your w-win at Back to Reality was a f-f-f-fluke. What are your thoughts on the n-naysayers?
JR: They are entitled to their opinions, of course. What's more meaningful than those comments… is that Louis Cypher was the first to doubt me, and people really latched on to his views of my victory. So, it's cool that people think what they think. I can't stop them. I won't stop them. I just think it's cool that Cypher means so much to people. He is such a Debbie Downer about everything and there's no reason to be that way. As the face of this company… he only seemed to be concerned with his own position, rather than empowering the rest of the company.
BO: As the new f-face of the company, what will you do d-differently?
JR: Short answer… everything. See, if you want to succeed… if you want to be the top guy… then everyone needs to succeed. Together… Everyone… Achieves… More. I believe in TEAM to the fullest. Sure, in the ring we're all enemies and we're going to beat each other up, blah blah blah. If we focus all of that hostility and machismo into working together for the betterment of SFT… imagine what we could all achieve. This could be the dawn of a new new new golden era.
BO: Despite the negativity you may face from your M-make SFT Great Again campaign… what are your plans for r-recruiting?
JR: I have taken it upon myself to reach out to old faces, new faces. I even signed up for one of those Top 100 websites on behalf of SFT. If we even get one new member of our family from that list… then it's all worth it. There has been so much missed opportunity in this place for years… and I truly believe I can make a difference.
BO: Some interesting c-comments were tweeted out recently from f-fans that Former SFT Co-Owner Nathan Gust is w-willing to return home to SFT. Care to c-comment?
JR: Absolutely. He straight up said he would come back with one simple phone call. I don't know if that call will come, but if it does… maaannn things will be interesting. Even though he says he's retired… he's still got a lot of contacts in the industry. He's got the vision to make a mountain out of a molehill. He's pushy enough that he could bring back to many people to the brand. Those familiar faces could bring in new faces. They could all learn from each other and… together… Make SFT Great Again. See what I did there? Full circle.
BO: Being part of such an alpha m-male business for two decades, do you find it hard to stay positive and work towards a brighter f-future with your peers?
JR: Some people look at how happy I am to be part of this organization and ask, “Why bother?” See, it’s that kind of attitude that makes this job undesirable. If you don’t put 100% into it… and expect great things to happen… you’re insane. To balance out some of the slackers… I am going to put at least 110% into it… in hopes that it pushes others to do better. “Lead by example” is the official slogan of my World Championship reign. But… of course… that could all come to an end on August 28th when I meet up with Louis Cypher… one-on-one… in Hell in a Cell. It’s entirely possible that he will take back this championship and end my happy, positive, productive run as the top guy around here. Then… we all go back to frowning… and cloudy days. I don’t mean to downplay Louis Cypher as the top guy. I only mean to point out that he’s not a cheery guy. If people look at SFT to see who their champion is… and he’s a Gloomy Gus… what reason would they have to stick around? I’m not saying the guy has to go around shaking hands and kissing babies. But… man… just a little smile here or there would go a long way. I guess I just have a different outlook on this business than most people, so I see things a certain way. The way I see it… my run as World Champion matters. Not just to me, but to the people. From the moment I signed with SFT… there was a buzz in the crowd… on the internet… and on the street. In order to keep that buzz going… I am going to have to continue giving at least 110% of my efforts to everything I do around here.
[The trainees all return from the locker room, and get back into the ring. They begin to stretch, and Jaime takes notice.]
JR: Speaking of 110% of my efforts… I’m going to have to cut this short so I can go train the future of this business. Is that cool?
BO: Yes, s-sir. Thank you for your t-time.
JR: It’s my pleasure. If you ever need anything, quickest way to find me is to shoot me an email. I’m listed in the employee database.
BO: Wonderful. Thank you very much, Mr. R-reyes.
JR: Please. Mr. Reyes was my father. Call me Jaime.
[The two shakes hands and Jaime returns to the ring to train the future of this business… and the scene fades…]

[][][][][][][][][][] DIG INTO THE ARCHIVES [][][][][][][][][][]
One hundred and fifty one. That is the World Heavyweight Championship run that I am embarked on at Back to Reality. History is a pretty powerful tool. Looking back at all of the great champions who have come before me is something I hold dear. Dave Van Dam is a former seven time champion. Connor MacDaddy is a former six time champion. Kyle Murphy is a former five time champion. Saint Jude, Nirvana, Glenn Owen, Reno Destiny, Havoc… all former four times champions.
I bring that up because Louis Cypher has the opportunity to become a four time champion on August 28th when he meets yours truly in Hell in a Cell. His first two reigns were in 2005 for a combined thirty seven days. It wasn’t until thirteen years later when he defeated Jamo back in April that he was able to have a decent run with the belt. The difference between those two time periods is the roster. In 2005, competition was heavy and there were challengers for days. In 2018, competition is much lighter… and you could go months without having to defend the title.
It’s crazy to look back in the archives and see just how different things are these days. When Cypher was champion in 2005, he had so much to worry about. In 2018… ehhhh… not so much. In his one hundred and thirteen days spent as champion this year… he had a quick title defense against Twilight a month after he won it. Then a non-title match with Jackson Kent that went to a no-contest two weeks later. Then a non-title match with Saint Jude that he LOST two weeks after that. Then a World Title match with Jack Jones that he LOST by countout a month later. Then a Hardcore Title match with Rumpke that he won two weeks after that.
For those of you keeping track at home… his title run wasn’t that impressive this year. He had two title defense… and one of them he lost by countout. He had two non-title matches… and didn’t win either of them. Aside from his incredible victory over Rumpke… he really hasn’t done anything since he won the title back in April. So now… I have to wonder where all that animosity toward the powers that be came from. It seems like they were protecting him all year, until they came up with Back to Reality. Maybe that match WAS their plan to get the title away from him. I mean, I would have done the same thing… with a string of losses to Saint Jude and Jack Jones. Funny that BOTH of them have victories over Cypher and NEITHER got a fair rematch.
But… then Back to Reality comes… and I win the World Heavyweight Championship… but Cypher is entitled to an automatic rematch? That’s odd. I would like to state… right here, right now… that WHEN I retain my championship against Cypher… I would like to extend a fair rematch against Jack Jones AND Saint Jude. Any time… any place. It is very clear that BOTH of them are owed a fair shot, since they BOTH defeated the former champion. One was in a non-title match, and one was by countout. But a win is a win. Jack… Jude… you guys got the short end of the stick and I would like to make it right. So… powers that be… if you like stacking the deck like Cypher thinks… then by all means… give me those two any time.
I’ll even take ‘em on in a triple threat. I don’t care. If one of them beats me, then it was meant to be. I’ve seen enough in my two decades in this business to know what’s right and what’s wrong. I will continue to fight for the former and continue to fight against the latter. When it comes to the upcoming episode of Titans… IF Louis Cypher defeats me and becomes a four time World Champion… then it was truly meant to be. I won’t be going after any kind of automatic rematch, because that’s not what I’m about. If I wake up on August 29th as a former World Champion, then I will start from the bottom again and work my way back to a title match. That’s how I was brought up in this business, and that is how I wish to continue.
Looking at the current roster… there are still some people I have yet to come in contact with… aside from at Back to Reality. I am intrigued by this 404 character who just signed with the company. I feel like Glenn Owen and I would be a good, strong match. As I said… I feel Jack and Jude are owed a fair rematch for the World Title, so I would love to give them both that. Who else is there? Lucas Balkan has been rumored to be returning. I don’t know much about him, but I’d like to see what he’s all about inside the ring. Nirvana is one of my all-time favorites and, as I’ve said, I would love a match with him. But man… oooooohhhh mmmaaannn… I am just dying for that match with Rumpke. I don’t care when it is, where it is, or how it happens. I don’t care if I’m a champion or he’s a champion. That’s just a match I need to happen. I would greatly prefer if the match had some sort of badass stipulation. If it doesn’t… well… you never know what can happen out there when we’re live.
Before any of that fun stuff can happen… I’ve got to make it to Titans for this Hell in a Cell Match. Win or lose… I am surely going to take a beating at the hands of Louis Cypher. It’s just a matter of survival. Do I walk out with the title, or does Cypher prove that my win at Back to Reality was a mistake? That will be answered in less than two weeks. I want Cypher to show the world what he’s made of. I want Cypher to show why he deserves to be a four time World Champion. I want Cypher to prove me wrong. I’ve got a lot of work to do in the next ten days to prepare for this match.
Louis Cypher… it’s a pleasure to give you a contractually obligated rematch for the Strike Fantasy Towers World Heavyweight Championship. Hopefully this match will prove once and for all that the powers that be know what they were doing when they cooked up the Back to Reality Battle Royal. I understand your predicament and how you feel like this is all owed to you. I just wish you could take a look around and see you are not the only one fighting to the top around here. As I said, Jack and Jude BOTH beat you… and didn’t get a fair rematch. What makes you so special, Cypher? Holding the title for one hundred and thirteen days doesn’t mean much when you didn’t do anything important with it in that time.
I have been champion for eighteen days… and I have already given it a new lease on life.
Hopefully that lease doesn’t run out on August 28th with the start of your fourth reign as champion.
If it’s meant to be, let it be.
See you soon...?
