Mike Johnson from pwdirtsheets.com recently sat down for an exclusive interview with The SoCal Superman, “Undeniable” Jaime Reyes, who just won his first match in Strike Fantasy Towers, a world renowned professional wrestling organization.
MJ: Jaime Reyes, you truly are undeniable. After a less-than-stellar debut in SFT, you bounced back in round two with an impressive victory over former SFT World Champion Jamo and SFT Intercontinental Champion Jackson Kent.
JR: It was a victory, sure. But impressive? Hardly. We were all fighting on the outside, and I beat the ten count. It's as simple as that. In that moment, I was the only one to have the strength to simply get back into the ring. If you watched, you'd see Jackson Kent still lying on the ground. Think about that. The last man not standing… is the Intercontinental Champion.
MJ: Looking forward to the next episode of Tuesday Night Titans, Jackson Kent is defending that championship against Jamo. Having just defeated both of them by countout, what are your thoughts on the booking decision?
JR: I don't think it was as much of a booking decision as it was a matter of drawing names out of a hat. Last time, once they figured out Jackson was champion, our match was made non-title. Then, I beat the champion… and Jamo is next in line for a title shot. I get that I'm new to this company… but it's undeniable that I'm the hottest thing going around here.
MJ: Your next match on Titans is against former Intercontinental Champion Robert Saints. This marks your first singles match. Do you take this as a better opportunity to showcase your skills?
JR: Absolutely. While I like the idea of having more opponents to defeat, there's something special about a singles match. It's just two warriors… on the battlefield… and one walks away. It's simple. This match will be a great chance to show the suits that I mean business. Robert Saints has been Intercontinental Champion a handful of times… which means he has lost it a handful of times. Once I defeat him, his chances of another title shot drastically decrease.
MJ: That's a bold claim right off the bat. Don't you think?
JR: No, not at all. Look at recent history. A few shows ago… he had a shot at the Intercontinental Championship… and he didn't even show up to the building. Then, he somehow had a chance to become number one contender for the World Championship. He loudly proclaimed that he would beat Emerson and go on to be World Champion… and then he lost to Emerson. So, not only is he a loser, but he's also a liar. Worse than that… is another mistake in booking. Robert Saints didn't even show up for his Intercontinental Championship match… and was given a shot at a shot at the World Championship.
MJ: It's almost like he was rewarded for bad behavior.
JR: Everyone is just handed participation trophies around here… and I guess some people like that. Not me, man. I just beat the Intercontinental Champion… and next I'll beat a former however many times champion. That will put me no closer to a title match, because losing is the quickest way to a title match. Instead… I will keep shouting from the rooftop of my first major goal: I want a shot at Rumpke.
MJ: With all the potential in the world, backed up by plenty of momentum… your sights are set on Rumpke?
JR: Yeah, man. He sets the bar for toughness in SFT. Even in defeat, the guy is a badass. Next time on Titans… dude has a shot at the World Championship. Win or lose… he's going to be feeling the least amount of pain. No matter how many belts he walks out with… I want to make it perfectly clear that he's next on my list.
MJ: You already hold a win over Jackson Kent and Jamo. Next up is Robert Saints. Do you fear the viper striking?
JR: I don't even know what that means. Is he some sort of mutant snake man?
MJ: I think it relates to his finishing maneuver… Viper Cutter.
JR: Oh, sure. If he's able to hit that outta somewhere, there's a pretty good chance he could defeat me. It's obviously worked for him in the past. All the times he has struck… he's never been in there with a wrecking machine like me. When it's all over… and he's sorely defeated… I hope he enjoys his World Title match.
MJ: You are really cynical about the way booking appears to be. Why is that?
JR: I've been around a long time… and I've seen a lot of things. I've seen plenty of guys make it to the top who didn't deserve it. And I've seen plenty of guys held down because they didn't fit a particular mold for who could be a top guy. It was one of the downsides of pro wrestling in this country, which helped make my decision to stay in Japan. And now… years later… I'm back to my roots, and the world still works the same way. Look around here, man. Guys like Rumpke are a dying breed. The guys with true guts, heart, determination… are fading away. They're being replaced by living caricatures like Jamo and Saints. Guys like that… they're not real fighters. They're walking catchphrases. While their cute words impress some people… I will continue to work harder than everyone else to prove there is another way to do business. I was told a long time ago that it takes more hard work and knowledge to make it in this business… and I totally agree. But… anyone lacing up boots without hard work and knowledge… will have to answer to me.
MJ: Are you saying Robert Saints lacks hard work and knowledge?
JR: To an extent, sure. In his defense… he may be stretching himself too thin. He's got his eyes on so many prizes, his hands in so many cookie jars. It just doesn't seem like he is truly in it to win it as far as pro wrestling goes. And, you know, he's got a family that he is really close to… and they've got a lot of stuff going on. I admire that. Really, I do. But if he's going to be the man around SFT… he's got to focus on doing what's best for SFT. What's best for SFT… right now… is for everyone to be all in. With all of his outside interests… I just don't see Robert Saints as a potential top guy around here. Maybe he'll catch me off guard with his trusty Viper Cutters next time on Titans.
MJ: That's a damn good open ending if I've ever heard one. Thanks for your time, as always.
JR: No, thank you. Without the hype from guys like you… our voices are seldom heard. You give me a voice, which hopefully draws attention to Titans… where I'm going to beat up Robert Saints.
MJ: I'll be sure to tune in and put together some feedback for my weekly podcast. Check it out every Wednesday at pwdirtsheets.com.
